Shared from a friend…
When my youngest was in school, he had a hard time sitting still. His mind was constantly racing and getting him to stay on task was really tough.
When I had him build or draw what he was learning, I noticed he could retain things easier. When some type of physical activity was involved, learning increased.
I found that giving him a fidget spinner or thinking putty helped him to focus. The movement with his hands made it so we didn’t have to take as many breaks during homework time.
I have a thinking putty recipe that isn’t too sticky or too tricky. The consistency is perfect. It also stretches which makes it fun to play with.
If you have kids that struggle to focus, you should try it. I promise it will be worth it! |

INGREDIENTS: |
● |
3-4 oz lotion (unscented or scented) |
● |
Essential oil (Cedarwood, Peppermint, Citrus Bliss, and Lavender are a few of my favorites) |
INSTRUCTIONS: |
● |
Add 1 cup cornstarch to bowl (you can also add a bit of flour to get it to the right consistency) |
● |
Squeeze 3-4 oz. of lotion into your bowl of cornstarch |
● |
Mix it with your spoon and then your hands – kneading the dough until smooth |
● |
Add 1 drop of your favorite essential oil. Optional: Add 1-2 drops of color and mix |
Keep putty in an airtight container for long-term storage |

*Tip: Different brands of lotions will have different consistencies. If putty is too sticky, add a little more cornstarch. If too doughy, add a small squirt of lotion. This putty should feel soft and smooth. It’s perfect for molding, stretching, and playing. You don’t want it to be too hard or it’ll be hard to mold in your hand. |
